New Italian Cinema starts tomorrow with a special tribute to Valeria Golino, November 11-18, 2012

The New Italian Cinema film festival, now in its 16^th  year, opens on Sunday, November 11, 2012, with a four film tribute honoring Italian actress Valeria Golino, who will make a special guest appearance, and promises to tantalize audiences with Kryptonite! (2011), her directorial debut which is a quirky family drama set in in 1970’s Naples.  Kryptonite! director Ivan Cotroneo is expected to attend as well.  Seven terrific features by up-and-coming directors are featured in the City of Florence Award competition.  The films in this year’s program include delightful coming-of-age stories, an intense war drama and one very memorable road trip. For the first time in many years, the festival is also presenting a documentary, the delightfully personal Hit the Road, Nonna. Closing out the program is Laura Morante’s directorial debut, the romantic comedy The Cherry on the Cake, followed by a festive closing night reception at a nearby locale.  (Stay tuned to ARThound for festival coverage.)
